Chris Koehn continues his exploration of stillness on “Inside”, a new shoegaze-leaning alternative single featuring singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur.

Built around shimmering guitars, analog textures and an understated rhythm, the track trades dramatic peaks for something more reflective, unfolding at its own pace without ever feeling weighed down.

Co-produced with Jerry Q, “Inside” asks a simple question: are we searching for something we’ve had all along? Koehn explores that idea with lyrics that suggest purpose isn’t something to chase, but something to remember, allowing the song’s message to emerge naturally rather than spelling it out.

Musically, Arthur’s falsetto harmonies slip effortlessly around Koehn’s lead vocal, adding depth without pulling focus. Recorded with drums at Chapel Studio using a vintage Tascam 8-track recorder, the production blends shoegaze textures with an analog warmth that suits the song’s introspective mood.

Lyrically, “Inside” works on several levels. Alongside its core message of self-reflection, the song draws on spiritual imagery and ideas inspired by Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth. Yet Koehn never allows those references to dominate the listening experience, giving listeners space to find their own meaning within the song.

“I hope you connect with remembering your meaning of this life, why you came here and that find calm inside and uplifts you while listening,” Koehn said.

Following previous collaborations with Arthur, “Inside” gives a glimpse into their evolved artistry. Its strength lies in its restraint, allowing atmosphere, performance and careful songwriting to carry the emotional weight long after the final note fades.

Following their previous collaborations, Koehn and Arthur share an easy musical chemistry on “Inside”. Rather than relying on big hooks or dramatic flourishes, the song finds its impact in subtle performances. And by the time it reaches its final moments, it has said everything it needs to without ever raising its voice.
