The Star Prairie Project channels retro California spirit on new single ‘Runaway Baby’

Americana artist The Star Prairie Project return with “Runaway Baby,” a breezy, sun-soaked new single released on May 15. The track marks another chapter in songwriter Nolen R. Chew Jr.’s ongoing collaboration with Finnish artist and producer Tom Tikka.

Following earlier releases “California Smile” and “Sweet Surrender,” “Runaway Baby” leans further into the duo’s Americana influences while keeping the rich, layered harmonies and guitar-led melodies that shaped their previous work.

Produced by Tikka and Janne Saksa, the single channels the glow of 1960s Southern California pop through bright instrumentation and easygoing hooks. Its lyrics play with double meanings, turning the image of a runaway car into something closer to a short-lived romance.

“Runaway Baby” moves with an easy summer charm, carried by jangling guitars, warm melodies and harmonies that stay with you long after the chorus fades.

The track pulls from classic West Coast pop without feeling weighed down by nostalgia. Its Italy-shot music video complements the song’s carefree spirit with sweeping coastal visuals and a sense of escapism.

With “Runaway Baby,” The Star Prairie Project tap into a timeless style of songwriting built for open roads, rolled-down windows and repeat listens. As the project continues to expand through collaborations stretching from LA to London, it keeps classic Americana and guitar pop rooted in the present rather than treating them like relics of the past.
