Olivia Rodrigo returns with new album and “Stupid Song” visual

Olivia Rodrigo unveils her new album "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love" and “Stupid Song” music video

Olivia Rodrigo has entered a new chapter.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter released her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, on Friday (June 12), delivering a 13-track project that examines the highs, doubts and heartbreaks that can exist within a single relationship.

Arriving nearly three years after Guts topped the Billboard 200, the new record expands on Rodrigo’s reputation for turning emotional vulnerability into compelling pop music. Structured as a two-part narrative, the album follows the arc of a romance from infatuation and longing to uncertainty and eventual collapse.

The rollout has already produced several standout moments. Lead single “Drop Dead” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while follow-up release “The Cure” offered a softer, more reflective counterpoint.

Alongside the album’s arrival, Rodrigo also unveiled the music video for “Stupid Song,” which follows the singer weaving through New York City accompanied by a troupe of ballerinas as she navigates the dizzying emotions of new love.

Rodrigo first previewed “Begged” during a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, where she was joined by backing vocalist Natalie Mering of Weyes Blood. She also introduced “What’s Wrong With Me?” live at Primavera Sound in Barcelona alongside The Cure frontman Robert Smith, who features on the album.

Eighties-inspired synth textures and new wave influences run throughout the record, reflecting Rodrigo’s admiration for artists such as Smith and The Cure while maintaining the confessional songwriting that has defined her career.

Speaking previously about the project, Rodrigo noted that many of her favorite love songs balance romance with fear and yearning, a perspective that shapes much of the album’s emotional core.

With the album now out in the world, Olivia Rodrigo is preparing to take the songs on the road. Her upcoming Unraveled Tour launches in September 2026 and will bring the singer across North America and Europe through next May, marking her most ambitious touring run to date.
