KALEN spotlights growth and resilience on 'Fits of Fever' from latest album "Velvet Night"

After more than two decades spent navigating New York’s ever-evolving independent music scene, KALEN is still finding new ways to tell her story. Her latest release, Velvet Night, arrives as a deeply personal collection of songs, with standout track “Fits of Fever” offering one of the record’s most striking moments.

Built around themes of change, longing and self-discovery, “Fits of Fever” captures the emotional undercurrent that runs throughout the album. Rather than framing transformation as a dramatic breakthrough, the song lingers in the uncertainty that often comes before it. That sense of reflection gives the track its weight, placing KALEN’s songwriting front and center.

Released via Hi 4 Head Records, Velvet Night features six new songs alongside six acoustic reinterpretations of earlier material. The project is also accompanied by a zine of original lyric artwork, extending the album’s storytelling beyond the music itself.

KALEN’s ability to blend confessional songwriting with influences drawn from rock, blues, and indie electronic music has become a hallmark of her work. Raised on her mother’s eclectic vinyl collection and writing songs since the age of 11, the singer-songwriter has built a catalogue that spans multiple projects and genres while remaining rooted in narrative-driven songwriting.

The release follows recognition from outlets including Kaltblut and Ladygunn, both of which named her an artist to watch. As she prepares to bring Velvet Night to audiences throughout 2026, including upcoming dates with fellow artist Jacque Ryal, “Fits of Fever” stands as a compelling introduction to an album centered on vulnerability, resilience and the possibility of becoming someone new.
