Indian model Bhavitha Mandava makes history as the first Indian to be named a house ambassador for Chanel.
In a landmark moment for global fashion industry, Mandava’s new role marks a huge step forward not just for her own modelling career but for Indian representation in international luxury fashion overall.
On May 7, Mandava posted on the news on Instagram writing : writing, “CHANEL has long stood as a symbol of the modern working woman in motion, a spirit I deeply resonate with and am proud to embody. Matthieu’s vision for the house brings a genuine sense of joy, thoughtfully balanced with reverence for its legacy. “I’m truly honoured to be part of this new chapter at CHANEL and to join as an ambassador for a house that holds a special place in my heart.”
Taking on the prestigious role at the iconic French luxury brand is not the first time that Mandava – who made her but debut on the Chanel runway for Matthieu Blazy’s debut collection last season – has created history.
She also etched her name in history this past December, as the first Indian model to open a Chanel show, leading the Métiers d’Art collection in New York City.
Mandava has steadily built her presence in global fashion, most recently closing the Chanel haute couture show in January 2026 in a stunning bridal look.
From a student pursuing master’s degree in integrated design and media in New York to be scouted on the subway in 2024, Mandava’s rise to the forefront of global fashion happened within a few weeks as Matthieu Blazy casted her in a runway show, launching a career that’s gained momentum with ferocity.
Marking her presence on runways as much as in leading fashion magazine spreads, Bhavitha Mandava’s role at Chanel kicks off a new chapter not just for herself but also sets the standard for what Indian models can bring to global luxury fashion.
