In an incredibly rare instance – that we won’t witness in our lifetime again – Ramadan, Lent, and the Lunar New Year all started within 24 hours of each other.
This calendar alignment of events is historic and has happened for the first time in 163 years – and it will also not happen again until 2189!

While China and other South East Asian countries kicked off Chinese New Year celebrations to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse on Tuesday, February 17, the Christian fasting season of Lent also began on the same day.
Meanwhile, people in many different parts of the world began their Ramadan fast on Wednesday, February 18 – with certain countries set to begin their fast on Thursday, February 19.
Despite being three different faiths, Lunar New Year, Ramadan and Lent all share values of spiritual growth, renewal, re-alignment as netizens marvelled at the common feeling of reset that prevails.
This extremely rare world event which ushers a sense of unity is an opportunity for everyone – regardless of faith, religion and any other signifiers – to reflect, learn and evolve in their lives.
