The Lunar New Year 2026 kicks off on February 17, 2026, with celebrations taking place in China and beyond to welcome the Year of the Fire Horse.
Occurring for the first time in 60 years, the year of the horse is thought to be associated with traits such as speed and energy.
On the significance of it, astrologer Jessica Adams, author of Your Birthday (Hachette) has a weekly Substack podcast at The Astrology and Tarot Show explains “Year of the Fire Horse, last seen in 1966, is always a big year for women. We will see a new female world leader in 2026 who is as powerful as Indira Gandhi was in India. In a herd of horses, a boss mare or lead mare is always more powerful than the male stallion. She is in charge.”
What the year of horse means to you and your 2026 journey can vary based on your Asian Zodiac sign. As explained on Jessica’s website, “Your Asian sign is based on your Jupiter cycles are known to astrologers worldwide in different ways.”
There are 12 Asian signs and every 12 years – aligning with Jupiter’s cycle – you enter an Asian Year which matches your own Asian zodiac, with each zodiac impacted differently.

DOG : You will pair off with another person in a group and find true togetherness with each other.
DRAGON : This year you will be meditating more often, or even trying it for the first time. Being alone benefits you.
PIG : Travel or moving is in your destiny, Pig and you will be packing your bags as you leave 2025 far behind.
OX : A new look suits you and it may be your hair, glasses, wardrobe or perhaps weight loss if you need to do it.
SNAKE : You will figure out a problem slowly and surely in Year of the Fire Horse and by 2027, release yourself.
TIGER : You are shedding your old self and old life in Year of the Fire Horse and letting everything fall away at last.
RAT : This year is about freedom for you and there is a major release coming as a stuck situation will lift.
ROOSTER : You will achieve peace this year as a treaty or special understanding puts an end to the conflict in your life.
MONKEY : You will succeed slowly this year, step by step, rather than rushing and pushing to get to your goal.
HORSE : This is your year and you will find real joy in 2026 thanks to an unforgettable period of success.
GOAT : You will be branching out in 2026 and exploring new options in your life, going further and doing more.
RABBIT : In order to deal with a deep situation that challenges you, find a way to be by yourself, withdraw or retreat.
