"Peppa Pig" reveals George is moderately deaf in new episodes

Peppa Pig is expanding its on-screen representation with a major new storyline centered on George, Peppa’s younger brother. The children’s franchise has confirmed that George is moderately deaf, marking a significant step toward inclusive storytelling in preschool television.

The reveal will first appear on February 6 through a special episode of Peppa Pig Tales on YouTube. The episode presents a first-of-its-kind format for the series, told from George’s audio perspective. Viewers will experience how everyday moments in the Pig family’s routine can present added challenges for George, offering young audiences insight into hearing loss through his point of view.

Hasbro developed the storyline in collaboration with the U.K.’s National Deaf Children’s Society, alongside deaf producer and script consultant Camilla Arnold, to ensure accuracy and respectful representation.

George’s story will continue on linear television beginning March 23, when new episodes air on Nickelodeon in the United States. One of the episodes, titled “Hearing Loss,” follows Peppa’s family as they learn during a routine check-up that George is hard of hearing.

The episode shows George being fitted with a hearing aid and adjusting to new sounds around him, including splashing in puddles and hearing the ice-cream van. A key emotional moment occurs when George says Peppa’s name for the first time.

TV personality, author and England’s first Deaf female rugby player Jodie Ounsley appears in the episode as the audiologist, adding authenticity to the storyline.

Alongside the on-screen narrative, Hasbro has entered into a broader partnership with the National Deaf Children’s Society to support fundraising and awareness initiatives. In the U.S., the company is also working with the Hearing Loss Association of America on family-focused programs promoting hearing health, including participation in Walk4Hearing events and a co-branded educational toolkit for parents and children.

To further improve accessibility, Hasbro has launched the Peppa Pig Sign Language for Kids YouTube channel, featuring episodes interpreted in both British Sign Language and American Sign Language.

The brand has also introduced its first product featuring George with a hearing aid, the Peppa Joke & Sing George Figure, now available on Amazon.
