Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams & Anna Wintour to Co-Chair 2026 Met Gala

Something seismic is stirring inside The Met. The 2026 Met Gala is officially taking shape, and it’s doing so with serious cultural weight. Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Vogue’s very own Anna Wintour have been announced as co-chairs for next year’s event, which will celebrate the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition titled “Costume Art“.

Set for May 4, 2026, the gala marks a significant moment for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as it will inaugurate the Costume Institute’s new Condé M. Nast Galleries — a permanent, nearly 12,000-square-foot space that places fashion at the center of the museum rather than on its margins.

Curated by Andrew Bolton, Costume Art explores the relationship between clothing and the human body, positioning fashion not as decoration, but as an art form rooted in lived experience. The exhibition pairs historical and contemporary garments with artworks from across The Met’s collection, spanning thousands of years, to show how the dressed body has shaped visual culture.

Unlike traditional displays built around idealized forms, the exhibition focuses on real and diverse bodies. Sections will examine classical and nude bodies, often ignored bodies such as aging and pregnant forms, and universal anatomical structures, broadening the conversation around how fashion interacts with human identity and physicality.

Beyoncé’s role as co-chair will mark her first Met Gala appearance in nearly a decade, last attending in 2016. Kidman and Williams have been frequent attendees in recent years, bringing distinct perspectives from film and sport. Wintour, as Vogue’s editor-in-chief and long-time architect of the gala, continues her central role in steering the event.

The host committee will be led by Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz, with members including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Paloma Elsesser, Gwendoline Christie, LISA, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Misty Copeland and others, with more names expected to be announced. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are serving as lead sponsors for the gala, while Condé Nast and Saint Laurent support the exhibition.

The Costume Art exhibition will open to the public on May 10, 2026, and run through January 10, 2027. The gala remains the Costume Institute’s primary source of funding, supporting future exhibitions, acquisitions and programming.
