Bollywood veteran Dharmendra has passed away aged 89, just shy of his 90th birthday in December 8.
Known affectionately as the ‘He-Man of Bollywood’, Dharmendra has won hearts for his blend of playful charm, rugged masculinity, and comic flair across a 300 films in a career spanning over six decades.
The legendary actor had been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month for age-related ailments and had remained in hospital for over 10 days before being discharged and shifted back to his Juhu bungalow, where he spent his final days under medical care.
Tributes have been pouring in from the industry for the charming actor with actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and several other well-wishers gathered at his residence and the crematorium to pay their respects.
Other legendary stars including Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Mammooty, Zeenat Aman, Sharmila Tagore and more well-known celebrities both within and outside Bollywood shared tributes on social media for an actor who marked an era of cinema.
His sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol performed the last rites this afternoon, while Hema Malini made an appearance in front of media with folded hands.
A sea of fans also gathered outside Dharmendra’s house and Vile Parle crematorium to bid adieu to the adored icon.
Dharmendra is survived by his first wife, Prakash Kaur, and their children, Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta and Ajita Deol, as well as Hema Malini and their daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol.
His final film appearance will be in Ikkis, out in cinemas on December 25.
