DJ Snake drops “Nomad”: A global sound odyssey rooted in cultural fusion

Global hitmaker DJ Snake has unveiled his highly anticipated new album, Nomad — a 17-track exploration of sound, culture, and identity that cements his reputation as one of electronic music’s most internationally connected artists.

Released on Friday (Nov. 7), the record blends the rhythms of the Caribbean, the energy of Africa, the mystique of the Middle East, and the color of India into a cohesive sonic narrative — a reflection of Snake’s life-long journey through the world’s musical frontiers.

Announced earlier this year during his sold-out show at Stade de France — a landmark moment in his career — Nomad arrives as both an album and an artistic statement. The French producer, born William Sami Étienne Grigahcine, describes it as “a tribute to the places, people, and sounds that shaped me — always moving, always learning, always blending what the world has to offer.”

The album’s title feels apt. From Paris to Mumbai, Lagos to Kingston, Snake’s latest work captures the essence of a modern-day wanderer. He’s clearly someone whose creative identity transcends geographical borders. Across Nomad, DJ Snake navigates a wide range of genres, including Afro-house, reggaetón, trap, and traditional melodies, weaving them together with his signature cinematic production.

Among the standout collaborations is “Tsunami” featuring Travis Scott and Future, a high-voltage collision of trap and festival-ready energy. K-pop phenomenon Stray Kids make a surprise appearance on “In The Dark,” marking Snake’s first-ever collaboration with a Korean act. The record also welcomes reggae icon Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley on “Bam Bam,” Grammy-nominated Afro-house artist Bantu on “Company,” and Snake’s own alter ego “The Outlaw” on “Final Fantasy.”

India — one of the countries that deeply influenced Nomad — plays a particularly significant role in the album’s conception. DJ Snake, who has performed across the subcontinent to massive crowds, has long spoken about his creative connection to the region. “I grew up surrounded by people from India, the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East,” he says. “That mix shaped everything I heard. Nomad is my way of honoring that.”

The album rollout throughout 2024 hinted at this cross-continental storytelling. “Paradise,” featuring Bipolar Sunshine, reimagined Phil Collins’ “Another Day in Paradise” and premiered at Snake’s historic stadium show. “Patience,” his poignant collaboration with Amadou & Mariam, offered a heartfelt meditation on migration through both its lyrics and striking visuals. Meanwhile, “Noventa” with J Balvin revived the 90s reggaeton pulse, and “Bring The House Down” alongside Dillon Francis reignited the trap movement Snake helped popularize a decade ago.

In the end, Snake’s latest album isn’t just a global dance record; it’s a cultural document of how sound travels, adapts, and thrives. With Nomad, DJ Snake extends the borderless ethos that has long defined his catalog. Since his breakout hits “Turn Down for What,” “Lean On,” and “Taki Taki,” he has made a career out of collapsing genres and uniting audiences from vastly different musical worlds. The result is a body of work that feels as comfortable in a Mumbai street party as it does on the main stage at Coachella.
