Julia Michaels has never shied away from emotional honesty — but her latest single, “No Heartbreak’s Killed Me Yet,” pushes that vulnerability into something defiantly self-assured.
Released under her independent label GFY Records on September 19, the track arrives as both a cathartic confession and a confident reclamation of self after heart-wrenching pain.

The music video, set against the kinetic backdrop of New York City, captures Michaels walking through subways and streets with a sense of quiet defiance.
“This song is about confidence and resilience, starting something with the faith that you will be OK even in the worst-case scenario,” she told Rolling Stone. Filming in New York felt fitting, she added — a city whose relentless rhythm mirrors her own: “It’s a city that has a resilient energy; if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere.”
The single draws from a deeply personal moment — one that nearly stopped her heart, literally. Michaels revealed that after a breakup, she cried so intensely that she went into cardiac arrhythmia, eventually undergoing minor heart surgery.
“Heartbreak sometimes doesn’t always have to be sad,” she later told NPR. “You can come out the other side and realize that person wasn’t right for you. Sometimes things need to end to make space for what’s really great.” That “great” turned out to be her now-fiancé, who stayed by her side through her recovery — even sleeping next to her in the hospital.
Lyrically, “No Heartbreak’s Killed Me Yet” channels this raw survival with sharp wit and characteristic self-awareness: “Maybe there’s a sting in my chest / No, wait, that’s just a drink going down slow.” It’s the sonic embodiment of finding humor and healing in the aftermath of pain.
The track follows her Second Self EP, released earlier this year, which featured collaborations like “Scissors” with Maren Morris. Together, the releases mark a turning point in Michaels’ artistry — one defined by autonomy, growth, and evolution.
Once known as the pen behind megahits for Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, and Sabrina Carpenter, Michaels is now rewriting her own narrative as both songwriter and storyteller.
With GFY Records (“Go F*** Yourself”) as her creative anchor, she’s clearly in control — unfiltered, unafraid, and freer than ever. “No Heartbreak’s Killed Me Yet” isn’t just an anthem of resilience. It’s Julia Michaels standing tall amid the wreckage, proving that even when the heart breaks, it still beats to its own rhythm.
