New Music Friday is here, and this week’s releases are bringing a little bit of everything to the table.
Hope Douds, Carly Rae Jepsen, GAYLE and Shygirl each arrive with a distinctly different take on the mood of the moment, whether that means chasing a summer high, dancing through complicated feelings or stepping into an entirely new era.
From sun-soaked country-pop and glittering house-infused dance pop to flirtatious punk-tinged pop and cinematic electronic textures, the latest drops find artists playing with both sound and storytelling.
So, before your weekend playlist fills up, here are four new releases worth adding to your rotation this New Music Friday.
Hope Douds — “Coastal Cowgirls”
Hope Douds brings a little Southern twang to the coast with “Coastal Cowgirls,” a bright, carefree country anthem built for sunshine, salty air and summer escapes. Blending her Southern roots with a breezy country-pop feel, the track paints a playful picture of turquoise waters, warm nights and plenty of wild cowgirl spirit.
With its feel-good energy and beachside yee-haw attitude, “Coastal Cowgirls” is an easy addition to those end-of-summer playlists, inviting listeners to leave the everyday behind and embrace a little adventure.
Carly Rae Jepsen — “Motivation”
Carly Rae Jepsen gets candid on “Motivation,” a glittering, house-inspired pop track from the night half of her forthcoming double album Day and Night. Built around hypnotic dance production, the song turns inward as Jepsen reflects on family, inherited patterns and the complicated process of becoming your own person.
The Paris-shot video, directed by Caio Viera and featuring Gigi Goode, carries that theme into a celebration of both birth and chosen families. It’s a personal subject, but Jepsen gives it the kind of warm, euphoric dancefloor energy that makes “Motivation” feel instantly inviting.
GAYLE — “bite the bullet”
GAYLE turns heartbreak into a night of reckless fun on “bite the bullet,” a playful, flirtatious pop track with punk and rock influences. Rather than dwelling on a relationship ending, the singer leans into the rush of meeting someone new, capturing that messy, impulsive feeling of wanting to know everything about a person, baggage and all.
The energetic new single arrives as GAYLE builds toward her debut full-length album, Observing Chaos, due September 18. After “junebug!” and “loving you is,” “bite the bullet” offers another glimpse into the candid, emotionally chaotic world she explores across the forthcoming LP.
Shygirl — “ALYSE”
Shygirl kicks off a new era with “ALYSE,” her first new music of 2026, pairing delicate vocals with raw cello harmonies and distorted electronic textures. Written and produced with longtime collaborator Karma Kid and JD Reid, the track explores the comfort and intensity that love can offer when everything else feels uncertain.
The single arrives with equally cinematic visuals, directed by Francesco Loy Bell and Oliver Bell. Built around a high-octane chase and a three-act story of love, desire and darker encounters, the film positions Shygirl as an elusive provocateur rather than its central character.
