Theatre meets modern gothic horror in “Elysium“, the debut production from musical-theatrical duo Ghouls Aloud, opening at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025 on 30 July.

Running through 24 August at Gilded Balloon at Appleton Tower (Ruby), the 60-minute show promises a heady blend of satire, suspense, and chilling suburban unraveling.

Created by Milly Blue (Basement Jaxx, BBC Radio 4) and Jessie Maryon Davies (Kate Nash, Lips Choir), “Elysium” follows a seemingly aspirational couple fleeing the chaos of London in pursuit of idyllic family life.

But the moment their garden’s plastic turf is pulled back, a darker underbelly surfaces — turning maternity leave and veggie plots into an eerie, existential descent.

Combining original live music, haunting arrangements, and a script inspired by speculative fiction and modern gothic literature, “Elysium” offers a fresh, unnerving theatrical experience that is equal parts stylish and sinister.

With a tone that dances between horror and biting humour, the show reflects on curated perfection, domestic dread, and the cost of keeping up appearances.

Elysium is suitable for ages 14+, with performances daily at 12:20 pm. With rave endorsements from the likes of NME, Ghouls Aloud’s debut arrives with pedigree and promise; a must-watch for those who like their Fringe theatre dark, daring, and deliciously off-kilter.
