Los Angeles-based alt-R&B artist iyla has released the official music video for her latest single, “Corset”, marking a bold visual chapter ahead of her highly anticipated debut album “Weeping Angel”, due out August 8.
Directed by longtime collaborator Justin Moser, the “Corset” music video transforms iyla’s album haunting artwork into a vivid, surreal tableau. With iyla herself stepping in as creative director, the visual plunges viewers into a dreamlike world that echoes the emotional turbulence of the track, mirroring its delicate balance of vulnerability and seduction. With striking special effects by Sasha Glasser and bold styling by Carlos Aviles, the video amplifies its theatrical edge, positioning ‘Corset” as a standout statement in iyla’s evolving artistic vision.
Produced by Kadis, “Corset” explores the suffocating grip of an intoxicating situationship — a recurring theme in iyla’s lyrical catalogue. Describing the track as “tight, binding, sultry, but ultimately suffocating,” iyla likens her romantic entanglement to a corset: alluring, but restrictive. The video builds on this metaphor, pairing poetic tension with raw, feminine power.
The single follows a steady stream of releases from “Weeping Angel”, a 13-track project shaped by grief and transformation after the loss of her mother. “I’ve attained a level of confidence I didn’t have before,” iyla says of the album, which she calls her most personal and unfiltered work to date.
With previous singles like “Wild”, “Strut”, and “Blue Eyes” earning praise from music outlets and media tastemakers, “Weeping Angel” is poised to cement iyla as one of R&B’s most compelling voices. The “Corset” video arrives as both a visual centerpiece and emotional preview of what’s to come.
“Corset” is available now on all streaming platforms. “Weeping Angel” releases August 8 and is currently available for pre-order.
