London-based singer, songwriter, and producer Lyves returns with “Out of the Blue“, a striking new EP that marks both a sonic evolution and a deeply personal turning point in her artistic journey.
Released via LVRN, the six-track collection finds the alternative R&B mainstay—known for her soul-stirring 2017 debut “Like Water” and over 100 million streams—stepping into a space of clarity, healing, and emotional renewal.
Crafted during a life-altering period that included the birth of her son, “Out of the Blue” departs from the aching melancholy of earlier work and instead embraces tenderness, purpose, and self-reclamation. “These songs were born out of stillness,” Lyves shares. “They’re a love letter to healing, to finding light in unexpected places.”

Written and produced by Lyves with contributions from SamTRax (SiR, Brent Faiyaz), Sam Crowe (Little Simz, Cleo Sol), and Harvey Whyte (Greentea Peng), the EP spans atmospheric R&B, ambient soul, and indie pop, woven together with cinematic elegance. Engineering credits from Adam Jaffrey (Obongjayar) and Zino Mikorey (Fred again..) further amplify its immersive sound.
Tracks like the gentle opener “For Eden” honor mental health and family, while “Kaleidoscope,” penned during pregnancy, glows with maternal devotion. “In the Morning” ends with the recorded voice of Lyves’ newborn, anchoring the EP’s emotional arc in love and legacy. From the celestial “Powder Blue” to the introspective “Polaris,” “Out of the Blue” reveals a multi-dimensional artist stepping fully into her power.
Speaking about the inspiration behind “Out of the Blue”, and how the EP came about, Lyves says,
“This project is a collection of songs that captures a deeply transitional moment in my life – moving away from a ‘blue’ era, where yearning and melancholy shaped much of my writing, toward a space filled with more lightness, purpose, and grace. Though the messages throughout are profound, many of the songs feel like gentle whispers or lullabies. They speak to self-worth, the magic of emotional awakening, and the journey back to oneself. At its heart, Out of the Blue is about rediscovering who you are and coming home to that truth. Though delicate in production, the songs carry a quiet fierceness—soft in sound but bold in spirit”.
Already hailed by media outlets and industry tastemakers, Lyves continues to shape the alternative soul landscape with music that is both intimate and resonant. With “Out of the Blue”, she offers her most vulnerable and assured work to date: soft in tone, bold in spirit, and quietly transformative.
