Bay Area-raised, Los Angeles-based band Provoker shares intoxicating offering “Pantomime,” delivering Shakespearean reflections upon love within haunting sonic layers.
Giving us a glimpse of their forthcoming third full-length album Mausoleum, the track revolves around how falling in love feels like a descent into madness, with vocalist Christian Crow Petty sharing “ I was inspired by this Shakespeare quote, ‘Sleeping or waking, mad or well-advised?’ The song and visuals are supposed to be sort of nauseating like you’re so intoxicated by the reward system that you don’t realize how deeply you’ve sunk into hysteria.”
Encapsulating the core sense of isolation at the centre of the upcoming album, Provoker’s signature blend of dark productions and vivid songwriting is set to get more expansive and bolder as we’re led through a carefully crafted world rooted in our reality and the hauntings of our own personal struggles.
Cinematic and grounding all at once, the track and album continue to unfurl the emotive yet addictive soundscape that Provoker has built since their 2021 debut full-length.
Having begun as a solo effort from musician Jonathon Lopez to create scores for horror and sci-fi films before growing into a trio featuring vocalist and songwriter Christian Crow Petty and bassist Wil Palacios, the band continue to go from strength to strength.
