Florida-based husband and wife Americana duo Rachel & George channels personal grief into a sense of connection on cathartic offering “No Way Left.”
Written just a few months after the 2014 hit-and-run death of
Rachel’s then-fiance, Jeff Schultz, the track is rooted in a deeply honest expression of pain, encapsulating the odd yet relatable human nature where detachment and despair exist in tandem.
Capturing the sharp but heavy pain of tragic loss, the track is grounded in the reality of tragedies even as it offers a comforting reminder that no one is alone in their struggles.
Intimate and familiar all at once, the poignant production weaves the bleakness of the past with quiet hope for a future where we aren’t overwhelmed by the pain anymore.
Speaking of the track, the duo says, “Sometimes there is no feeling better. You can hope and expect that eventually you’ll heal, but sometimes you’re just in the depths and there’s no getting out of it and it’s ok to be there.”
Having met in the band and played music together for years before coming together as a couple, Rachel and George have carved out a space for themselves with their genre-blurring, thoughtful musicality.
