Belfast-born, North West England based alt-grunge solo artist Tender Claws unveils gritty yet ethereal debut EP Tear Him To Pieces, weaving a listening experience that’s punchy as it is otherworldly.
From the atmospheric but anthemic grunge-pop stylings of the title track to the theatrical flair of “Ersatz Life,” the five-track project comes alive around an enticing blend of fuzzy guitars and propulsive beats that immerses us in a jagged yet alluring world.
An expansive showcase of introspective storytelling that unfurls the intricacies of nature and the human experience, the EP dives into themes of escapism, vulnerability, and transformation underpinned by a dreamy detachment as much as a hauntingly familiar sense of grounding.
Speaking of the project, Tender Claws says, ““This EP explores the idea of corrupted and lost innocence, and tainted idealism, in various guises.I don’t like to restrict myself too much thematically or in terms of production between songs, which I think is apparent in this debut EP. Each song on this EP provides a different texture and mood. Lyrically, I touch on personal experiences, escapism and wider issues that concern or interest me. Sonically, things get heavy and distorted at times while also being pretty and fun at others. I’m really proud of this body of work, and it was a joy to bring to life in the studio.”
Versatile, layered and delicately balanced between enchanting and edgy, the EP is the perfect encapsulation of Tender Claws’ expansive artistry that weaves gothic sensibilities into quiet reflections.
