Italian saxophonist and composer Leonardo Radicchi is bringing social consciousness to the forefront of contemporary jazz with HUMANITY, a new album that blends artistic ambition with urgent reflection on the state of the modern world.
Among the record’s standout moments is “Dignity,” the conceptual centerpiece of a five-movement suite that examines one of the most fundamental human values: the right to dignity.
Built around themes of equality, justice and shared humanity, the composition anchors a broader work that asks listeners to engage emotionally with the realities shaping contemporary life.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Radicchi has spent years developing a distinctive voice that combines rigorous jazz traditions with a deep commitment to social issues. His experiences as a humanitarian worker in conflict zones including Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Sudan continue to inform his artistic vision, giving HUMANITY a perspective that feels both personal and universal.
Musically, the album pairs the stripped-back sound of a pianoless trio with the expressive power of the human voice. Radicchi is joined by bassist Pietro Paris and drummer Marco Valeri, while vocalists Camilla Battaglia, Marta Raviglia and Lorenzo Cannelli add texture and emotional depth throughout the project.
The album is a collection that moves between introspection, protest and celebration, touching on themes ranging from resilience and political resistance to environmental concerns and collective responsibility.
For Radicchi, jazz remains a powerful language for navigating complexity. With HUMANITY, he offers listeners not just a record, but an invitation to feel the world more deeply.
