Marilyn Monroe fans set new world record ahead of star’s 100th birthday

More Than 1,000 Marilyn Monroe Lookalikes Gather in Palm Springs, Break Guinness World Record

A sea of platinum-blonde wigs and white halter dresses took over Palm Springs, California, as fans paid tribute to Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe with a record-breaking celebration ahead of what would have been her 100th birthday (June 1).

A total of 1,037 participants gathered near the city’s famous Forever Marilyn statue, officially setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Marilyn Monroe lookalikes. The turnout easily surpassed the previous record of 254 participants, established in Brighton, Australia, in 2020.

Organized by Greater Palm Springs Pride, the event drew Monroe admirers from across the region, many dressed in one of the actress’s most recognizable looks. Participants arrived wearing white flared dresses, platinum-blonde wigs, sunglasses, and other accessories inspired by the screen icon’s enduring image.

Organizers initially hoped to attract around 500 attendees, but interest far exceeded expectations. To verify the record attempt, participants checked in using a QR-code system that digitally confirmed attendance and helped document the historic gathering.

The event formed part of wider celebrations marking Monroe’s centenary year. Born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, Monroe rose from a difficult childhood to become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars. Decades after her death, her influence continues to shape popular culture, fashion, film, and celebrity iconography.

As thousands gathered beneath the California sun, the record-breaking tribute served as a reminder that Monroe’s cultural legacy remains as powerful as ever, nearly a century after her birth.
