Late Stay Ultra Girls shares compelling yet chaotic debut single "Like Washing Sieves"

Multi-instrumentalist Tim Burden marks a new chapter in his musical journey with his striking new solo project Late Stay Ultra Girls with debut single “Like Washing Sieves.”

Built on restless bursts of guitars and shadowy textures, the track intertwines nervous kinetic energies with brooding tinges in a stunning showcase of contrast.

Recorded with acclaimed producer Stew Jackson, the unapologetic offering opens with an expansive synth hook as gritty choruses give way to jagged guitar-led verses before towering into a crescendo that fades into a fragile piano-tinged note.

The textured and intricate sonics is juxtaposed against s grounded storytelling led by sharp observation and surreal grit to create an alluring yet honest indie songwriting style that feels distant and familiar all at once.

Speaking of the track, Burden says, “I wrote the music to the chorus of Sieves when I was 15 years old on an out of tune piano that a family friend stole from Portishead Nautical School (now defunct) and delivered unannounced to my bemused parents. 15 years later I wrote the line ‘like a homeless hermit crab in a soup can bedding down, it seems you’ve got a rotten case of falling in love’. 6 months later I finished writing the song, 2 years later I recorded it and now here we are. The song’s a hot mess to be honest. I think it’s about craving love and hating the idea of needing love. I think it’s about thinking love is really stupid and yet also being furious that you don’t get to be stupid with everyone else. There’s a girl in there I think, when is there not? Or maybe it’s just about crabs. I like crabs.”

Emerging from the enriching and varied chapters of musical collaborations, Burden’s eclectic artistry is made all the more visceral and personal with his unguarded new musical moniker.

Delivering a distinct genre-bending and immersive experience, Burden as Late Stay Ultra Girls manages to be compelling and chaotic in equal turns.
