Marvel Studios has reignited anticipation for its most ambitious crossover yet, unveiling the first full-length trailer for Avengers: Doomsday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The presentation, aimed at global exhibitors, marks the franchise’s most significant team-up event since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, a gap that has left theaters without a true Avengers ensemble for six years.
The trailer opens with a major surprise. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel universe, not as Iron Man, but as the armored villain Doctor Doom. He emerges as the central threat to the multiverse, seen preparing an invasion that sets the stage for the film’s sprawling conflict.
As the footage unfolds, different parts of the Marvel universe begin to collide. Professor X, played by Patrick Stewart, looks out from the X-Mansion as a sudden burst of light signals growing danger. The trailer quickly moves through a series of unexpected clashes, including Gambit facing off against Shang-Chi. In another moment, Mystique transforms into Yelena Belova, leading into a brief confrontation between two versions of Florence Pugh’s character.
A key action sequence shows Thor, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth, going head-to-head with Doctor Doom, only for Doom to overpower him by catching Mjolnir mid-attack. The most talked-about moment, however, arrives with Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers. His reappearance alongside Thor signals a reunion long thought impossible after Endgame, where Rogers had stepped away from the present timeline. The footage also confirms he is still worthy of wielding Mjolnir, reigniting questions around his return.
The trailer expands further into Marvel’s multiverse convergence, bringing together the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, Wakanda, and Atlantean forces led by Namor. The Fantastic Four’s arrival from Thunderbolts also sets up their first meeting with the so-called New Avengers, while tensions between Wakanda and Talokan resurface following the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. All factions are ultimately drawn toward a single objective: stopping Doctor Doom.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Doomsday and its follow-up Avengers: Secret Wars are being positioned as the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The ensemble cast includes Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Pedro Pascal, Ian McKellen, Letitia Wright, and Tom Hiddleston, and others in one of Marvel’s largest assemblies date.
With Doomsday releasing alongside Dune: Part III, the industry is already bracing for a landmark box office showdown, echoing the scale of Avengers: Endgame’s record-breaking global run.
