sombr is not wallowing this time; he is stepping into the chaos.
Fresh off a breakout year that saw his debut album I Barely Know Her dominate streaming platforms and earn him a Best New Artist nomination at the Grammy Awards, the New York native returns with “Homewrecker”, his first new release of 2026.
And while heartbreak has long been his currency, this time he trades bedroom confessionals for a high-stakes standoff.
Written and co-produced by sombr himself, “Homewrecker” pushes his sound into grittier territory. The hazy intimacy of earlier favorites gives way to bass-heavy production and sharper edges, built for bigger stages and louder rooms.
Lyrically, he navigates temptation with self-awareness rather than bravado. “I don’t wanna be a homewrecker,” he admits, framing the song as an internal tug-of-war rather than a villain origin story. The tension is deliberate, and so is the restraint.
The accompanying music video doubles down on the drama. Directed by Gus Black, the Western-themed visual casts sombr opposite Quenlin Blackwell and Milo Manheim in a chaotic love triangle set on a film shoot gone sideways.
What begins as performance slowly bleeds into reality, culminating in a literal high-noon showdown that mirrors the song’s emotional crossfire. It is stylized, self-aware and just theatrical enough for you too keep hooked until the end.
The momentum behind sombr, born Shane Boose, shows no signs of slowing. Three Billboard Hot 100 entries, a Top 10 album, and upcoming nominations at the Brit Awards have positioned him as more than a streaming-era success story.
With a sold-out European tour kicking off and major festival appearances on deck, he is expanding beyond the “bedroom-pop” label into something more commanding.
If I Barely Know Her introduced sombr as a diaristic storyteller, Homewrecker reframes him as a cinematic one. The feelings are still messy, but the stakes just feel bigger now.
