Jesy Nelson has publicly thanked fans, fellow artists and advocacy groups for the wave of support rallying around her after she appeared on This Morning and shared a personal update from hospital, prompting widespread solidarity across the entertainment industry and beyond.
The former Little Mix singer took to Instagram to acknowledge the messages she has received since revealing that her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, whom she welcomed with fiancé Zion Foster in May 2025, have been diagnosed with SMA Type 1.
While the television interview sparked renewed public attention, it was Nelson’s own words — delivered directly to her audience — that became the emotional center of the moment.
“Hey guys, I just wanted to come on here to do another video to just basically say thank you, genuinely so so much from the bottom of my heart for just the outpour of support and beautiful messages for me and so many other families that are dealing with this horrible diagnosis,” Nelson said in her Instagram Story.
“I’m genuinely actually really overwhelmed by the amount of support. I just want to say thank you to everyone that shared it, to everyone that wants to learn about it, that’s taking the time to watch it and sending me their beautiful messages. Thank you from me and the SMA community just appreciate it so much.”
Jesy Nelson also confirmed she is starting a petition to push for SMA Type 1 to be included in newborn heel-prick screening, framing it as a determined next step rather than a personal plea.
“I am starting a petition to try and get the SMA on the newborn screening heel prick testing from birth, and I just need you to know that I am so determined to make this happen,” she said. “So I am going to fight as much as I can to make this part of the newborn screening. It’s currently under review, so I will keep you updated with that one guys.”
The response has been swift and deeply supportive. Celebrities including Paloma Faith, Rochelle Humes, Michelle Visage, Stacey Dooley, Michelle Keegan, Sian Welby and JoJo Siwa publicly sent messages of love, strength and solidarity, repeatedly highlighting Nelson’s resolve as a mother rather than centring the moment on tragedy.

“The amount of people you’re helping when you’re suffering is truly admirable,” Humes wrote, while Visage added, “You bring awareness… you are so strong and we are here to lift you up.” Dooley echoed the sentiment more simply, calling Nelson “an incredible mother,” while Welby described the situation as “utterly devastating,” adding that Nelson’s daughters would be “so lucky to have you fighting for them and encouraging them to defy all the odds.”
Faith, meanwhile, praised Nelson’s willingness to speak out, writing that the twins were “lucky to have a mum willing to fight for them and help them have the best quality of life they can.”

Equally prominent were messages from within the SMA community itself. Disability advocate Cory Lee shared his own journey, telling Nelson that her daughters “can have full lives,” while dozens of individuals living with SMA — parents, adults, survivors and long-time advocates — flooded her comments with messages of reassurance, lived experience and gratitude for her visibility.
Organisations also publicly rallied behind Nelson, with Muscular Dystrophy UK and SMA UK acknowledging the difficulty of the moment while thanking her for sharing her storyi noting that early awareness can help ensure “no family should face these heartbreaking moments alone.”
For Nelson, who has often spoken candidly about vulnerability, mental health and resilience throughout her career, this moment has become less about celebrity and more about collective visibility. The scale of the response underscores how entertainers can shift public conversations simply by telling their own stories — and how audiences, in turn, show up when it matters.
