Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate
Made on a budget of around Rs 50 lakh and raking in over ₹100 crore worldwide, Gujarati devotional drama Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate was one of most astonishing performances in Indian regional cinema this year.
Following a rickshaw driver’s transformative journey of self-discovery and healing as he confronts personal demons led by visions of Lord Krishna, the film directed by Ankit Sakhiya – and starring Shruhad Goswami in the lead role – made history as the the highest-grossing Gujarati film of all-time.
Mahavatar Narsimha
Emerging as the highest-grossing Indian animated film, Ashwin Kumar’s directorial debut Mahavatar Narsimha quickly cultivated a deep connection with audiences for its blend of animation and epic storytelling exploring themes of divine justice, faith, and the protection to the righteous.
The animated devotion action film which revolves around two avatars of Lord Vishnu, Varaha and Narsimha, delivers an intricate and impactful narrative. The first part of a planned seven-part animated Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, the film showcased how Indian mythology appeals to the masses.
Alappuzha Gymkhana
Malayalam sports drama Alappuzha Gymkhana, which was made on a budget of Rs 12 crore went onto earn over five times that amount worldwide.
Directed and produced by Khaild Rahman, the film starring some of Malayalam’s most promising talents such as Naslen, Lukman Avaran, Ganapathi S. Poduval, and Sandeep Pradeep, received praise for its charming, humour-tinged performances and understated but high impact storytelling.
Kudumbasthan
Exploring everyday problems with a light-hearted undertone, Tamil comedy drama film Kudumbasthan attempts to balance thoughtful reflections on serious themes of caste discrimination with a humorous moments.
Rooted in the role of family bonds, the film which was Rajeshwar Kalisamy‘s directorial debut and co-written by Prasanna Balachandra, became one of the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2025.
