“KPop Demon Hunters” sing-along event hits theaters for one weekend only

When a film’s soundtrack lodges itself into playlists around the world and becomes a global earworm, the next step is obvious: gather the fans into a room, dim the lights, turn up the volume and let them sing their lungs out. “KPop Demon Hunters” — Netflix’s runaway animated blockbuster — is doing exactly that, with a special sing-along event arriving in select theaters across the U.S. and Canada on August 23 and 24.

For one weekend only, audiences will swap passive streaming for full-throttle participation, joining their voices alongside on-screen heroines Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) as they face down supernatural foes in neon-soaked, high-octane musical showdowns. Devotees of both fictional K-pop sensations — HUNTR/X and Saja Boys — are invited to help “seal the Honmoon” in real time, transforming the theater into a hybrid of concert hall and monster-fighting arena.

It’s a fittingly interactive victory lap for a film that’s shattered records since its June 20 debut. “KPop Demon Hunters” now stands as Netflix’s most-watched animated film of all time and the streamer’s second-most-popular English-language film overall, boasting more than 180 million views. The soundtrack has been no less dominant — holding firm at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 as of August 16 and racking up over 3 billion global streams.

Musically, the project is a juggernaut. Original tracks from EJAE, AUDREY NUNA, REI AMI, Andrew Choi, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo, samUIL Lee, Neckwav, and Lea Salonga fuse sleek K-pop hooks with cinematic muscle, anchored by heavyweight producers TEDDY, 24, IDO, DOMINSUK, Jenna Andrews, Stephen Kirk, Lindgren, and Ian Eisendrath. The result is a soundtrack that doesn’t merely underscore the action — it fuels it, infusing every battle scene with the electricity of a stadium encore.

Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, with a script co-written by Danya Jimenez, Hannah McMechan, Kang, and Appelhans, the film’s cocktail of high-energy choreography, razor-sharp visuals, and unapologetically addictive pop has sparked a fandom hungry for repeat viewings. The sing-along event promises to satisfy that hunger — not just replaying the hits, but inviting audiences to inhabit them.

Tickets are now on sale via SingKPopDemonHunters.com, where moviegoers can also find participating theaters and showtimes. With the film’s record-shattering run, seats are likely to disappear at the speed of its fiercest bass drop.
