Billie Eilish sweeps 2025 American Music Awards with seven wins

Billie Eilish for her album Hit Me Hard and Soft

Billie Eilish was the undisputed queen of the night at the 2025 American Music Awards, sweeping all seven categories in which she was nominated, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. The ceremony, held at the newly reopened Fontainebleau Las Vegas, marked the AMAs’ return after a two-year hiatus, and what a comeback it was.

Eilish’s big wins included honors for her critically acclaimed album Hit Me Hard and Soft and its breakout single “Birds of a Feather.” Despite not attending the show in person, Eilish sent in heartfelt video messages thanking her fans and collaborators, calling the moment “surreal” after what she described as “a tough year filled with near-misses.”

Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, the evening showcased a wide range of genres and unexpected turns. While Kendrick Lamar led with 10 nominations, he walked away with just one win: Favorite Hip-Hop Song for the chart-shattering Drake diss “Not Like Us.” In a surprise twist, Eminem bested Lamar for both Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Hip-Hop Album, extending his AMA dominance in the genre.

Pop legends Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars tied as runners-up, each taking home three awards. Their ultra-viral collaboration “Die With a Smile” earned them both Collaboration of the Year and Favorite Music Video. Gaga also clinched Favorite Dance/Electronic Artist, while Mars picked up Favorite Male Pop Artist for the third time.

Meanwhile, Gracie Abrams earned the coveted New Artist of the Year award, beating out a crowded field that included Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. The win marks a milestone for Abrams, who was previously nominated for Best New Artist at the 2024 Grammys.

Veteran artists also made headlines: Janet Jackson was honored with the prestigious Icon Award, while Rod Stewart and Zac Brown received the Lifetime Achievement and Veterans Voice Awards, respectively. Beyoncé further expanded her genre-bending legacy, taking home Favorite Country Album for Cowboy Carter and Favorite Female Country Artist — making her only the third Black or biracial artist to win in the country album category.

Despite a strong presence among the nominations, Taylor Swift, the most awarded artist in AMA history with 40 wins, was shut out this year. The same fate befell Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey, all of whom entered the night with six or more nods but walked away empty-handed.

Additional winners included:

SZA – Favorite R&B Song and Female R&B Artist
The Weeknd – Favorite Male R&B Artist and R&B Album
Bad Bunny – Favorite Latin Album and Male Latin Artist
Becky G – Favorite Female Latin Artist
Tyla – Favorite Afrobeats Artist
Arcane: League of Legends Season 2 – Favorite Soundtrack, a surprise upset over Wicked

This year’s AMAs reflected a notable expansion in country and Latin categories, with five awards each, highlighting the genres’ growing impact on mainstream music. As the curtain fell on an electrifying night, Billie Eilish’s flawless victory marked not just a personal redemption arc, but also a new benchmark in pop culture history — proof that even in a landscape shaped by algorithms and viral moments, artistry still prevails.
