A night of punk took over New Haven’s iconic Toad’s Place last week, with Murphy’s Law, H2O, Circle Jerks and Pennywise bringing decades of punk history to one stage.
Murphy’s Law kicked things off with frontman Jimmy G spending nearly the entire set in the crowd. Whether fans arrived early for a good spot or knew every song, standing still was never an option as the band set the tone for the night.

H2O kept that momentum going. Frontman Toby Morse shouted out Pennywise for bringing the band along on the tour, while also paying tribute to fellow openers, including tattoos dedicated to both bands. H2O also took a moment to honour the late Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory, performing “One Life, One Chance” in tribute to the punk community figure who passed away earlier this year.

The energy carried into Circle Jerks, who delivered a set that felt like a crash course in punk history. Alongside their music, the band addressed issues affecting communities today, staying true to the genre’s long-standing tradition of speaking up.
In a stunning display of punk chaos, the band squeezed six songs into the final four minutes of their set.

Then came Pennywise. The punk veterans tore through a set packed with fan favourites and unexpected covers, including songs by Bad Religion, Descendents, Circle Jerks and NOFX, alongside a rendition of “Stand by Me.”
After decades in the scene, the band also used the stage to reinforce one of punk’s most enduring messages: community means looking out for one another.

A Toad’s Place curfew ultimately forced Pennywise to cut the final songs from their set. Before leaving the stage, however, the band paid tribute to three punk figures lost too soon this year: Andy Williams of Every Time I Die, Lou Koller of Sick of It All and Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory with “Broken” dedicated to all three.
The night served as a reminder of what punk has always stood for – looking after one another, protecting the community and refusing to let division have the final word. From Murphy’s Law to Pennywise, the bill carried that spirit from the first song to the last.
