For Kirby, the song also marks something bigger than another release. She says writing it helped her recognise a sound that felt distinctly her own. “I knew that this song was about to change everything for me,” Kirby says. “‘Cross My Mind’ inspired a new sound that felt best described as me, Erin Kirby!”
That sense of discovery is reflected in the track’s slick production and emotional directness. Kirby, who has performed everywhere from the Grand Ole Opry to SXSW and appeared on American Idol and Showtime at the Apollo, describes the song as “cinematic and fresh,” while its nostalgia keeps it grounded in something instantly relatable.
“Cross My Mind” arrives as Kirby continues to carve out her place in Nashville, following an exclusive publishing deal with Concord and a career that has moved between pop, R&B and country. This time, she sounds less interested in fitting neatly into one lane than finding her own.
