A new three-part docuseries about Friends star Matthew Perry has been announced and will release on Netflix on October 27, 2026.
Titled The One With Matthew Perry, the documentary will explore the star’s life, career and struggles with Perry’s sister Mia Perry Bowick, set to be a central voice in the series.
Going beyond the comedic genius that he was on screen, the series reveals the man that Matthew Perry was behind the public persona. As someone who bravely spoke up about his addiction – including publishing a memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing in 2022 – the documentary is set to be a deeper glimpse at his story.
With Mary Robertson serving as director with executive producers including Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman, alongside Lora Moftah co-executive producer and Jessica Call as producer, the series will include rare insights into the actor’s life from his family, friends and creative collaborators as well as unreleased photos and videos from the Perry family’s private archive.
According the official Netflix press release, the series “traces his journey from rising comedic star to the man the world still loves as their favourite Friend,” featuring candid details that “honour the legacy of honesty and advocacy he leaves behind.”
In a statement, Perry Bowick also said, “It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life — to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction. As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be and the work to which I’ve devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved.”
Marking the third anniversary of the actor’s passing in October 2023, the three-part series is set to be an ode to an actor – and person – adored and missed by millions.
It is not yet known whether any of the Friends cast will appear on the docuseries.
