Singapore-born, Japan-based multi-displinary creative Zoe (Zoesthesia) channels her experience with synaesthesia into a unique and immersive soundscape on second solo single “Coloured Clouds.”
Drawn from a personal period of hurt, the track transforms confusion into brave self-reflection and acceptance. Laden with the vulnerability of losing her colours, the poetic number imagines colours of guilt (blue) and relief (purple) as Zoe journeys from self-doubt into confidence and empowerment.
Emotive yet uplifting, the track draws us into the uniquely colourful way she sees the world with the accompanying synaesthesia animation music video immersing us further with a resonant depiction of everything she sees with “coloured clouds.
Speaking of the track and visuals, she says, “I want the listener to go on that journey with me. They may not have synaesthesia, but everyone has an inner compass that guides them, something important in their life, an anchor, a core identity. Maybe they lost theirs from a very painful experience, and the confusion that comes with losing something so intimately tied to who they are as a person, spiraling into more confusion and hopelessness, not knowing how to get back. Eventually, losing themselves. However, when they finally find it again, that relief, that feeling of finally coming home to themselves, is sweet and explosive at the same time. Not only that, they come back with a newfound confidence, more than even before the journey, because they now know themselves at a whole new level.”
With 14 different forms of synaesthesia, Zoe’s sonics are shaped by the her views of the world and with her distinct musicality she channels lived experiences into a powerful brand of creative expression that’s framed by grace and understanding.
