Cameron James and producer 40k have released On Time!, their first full-length project together, and the album is at its best when the two give each other room. Across its R&B and hip-hop palette, the Canadian duo moves between intimacy, self-doubt and late-night momentum without forcing the songs into a single mood.
“Rose” is a good example of that balance. James delivers the song with the kind of smooth, visual phrasing that has become central to his sound, while 40k keeps the production spacious enough for the details to register. It is understated without feeling slight, and the chemistry between vocalist and producer does more work than any oversized production move could.

That same ease carries through the album. “Mind Games” leans further into emotional tension, while “Don’t Fight Me,” featuring Teon Gibbs, has a looser energy. “Ricky,” with Terrell Morris, came from the pair’s connection in Kelowna and has the relaxed feel of two artists finding the song as they go.
That variety gives On Time! its shape as it doesn’t follow a single storyline. Instead, Cameron and 40k move through relationships, ambition, self-reflection and the uncertainty that comes with figuring out what’s next. The title fits without needing much explanation: the album is about trusting that process rather than measuring it against someone else’s.
“We hope people hear themselves somewhere in this record,” the duo says. “Whether it’s the relationships, the ambition, the late nights, or just trying to figure life out, these songs come from real experiences.”
With additional contributions from Snowchild Edge and Kid Filthy, On Time! works best as a front-to-back listen. More importantly, it sounds like two artists who have figured out how to leave enough space for each other.
