UK R&B artist VIB turns inward on “Riding Solo,” a reflective new single about learning to sit with life’s difficult stretches without losing sight of what comes next. Released July 24, the track brings together self-reflection, unconditional love and healing, with faith and meditation forming part of VIB’s answer to the uncertainty around him.
There is a calmness to the song’s premise. Rather than framing solitude as something to escape, VIB treats it as an opportunity to understand himself better. His idea of unconditional love extends beyond romance, becoming a way of accepting hardship without allowing it to dictate what comes next. The approach gives “Riding Solo” a sense of quiet optimism without turning the song into a lesson.
The accompanying video, filmed across Lombok, Indonesia, gives that feeling a striking setting. VIB had travelled there for a surf camp and arranged the shoot with local filmmaker Draco of Lombok Visuals, who captured the island’s landscapes around the track. The scenery adds space to a song concerned with slowing down and taking stock.
“Music has always been a form of therapy for me,” VIB says, having written the track with producer Ian Green and with support from his mother. That relationship between music and reflection has followed him since his 2021 debut, “Light At Midnight,” which he released while studying medicine.
VIB has since completed his medical training while continuing to build a music career, earning radio play from BBC Asian Network, London and Essex alongside hundreds of thousands of streams. “Riding Solo” sits comfortably within that dual life: music as something he makes for an audience, but also something he uses to process his own.
His message for the song is deliberately brief: “Breathe, love, lighten.”
