The Last Glimpse : Kalyani Pramod explores interconnected of all life forms in immersive exhibit

Chennai-based artist Kalyani Pramod unfolds the devastating impact of human dominance on the vibrant life forms on our planet in her latest exhibition The Last Glimpse.

Unfolding as a series of expressive, mixed media artworks, the exhibit invites viewers into an intricate, interconnected world of figures and landscapes underscored by urgency and empathy in equal parts.

With each artwork capturing a specific moment or event that led to the inevitable decline of the particular species depicted, the collection weaves a sense of fragility with lasting impact.

Spanning issues such as habitat loss and degradation, the spread of invasive species, climate change, and illegal wildlife trade, each piece is unique in its telling of stories of animalia pushed to the brink by humanity.

Created from found objects and repurposed materials such as fabric, paper, plastic, metal, sourced from across Chennai, with techniques such as crochet, weaving, embroidery, punch needle, and other forms of mixed media, Kalyani creates an immersive world that’s laden with both sharp warning and gentle optimism.

Each piece is a deeply delicate and complex story told with hypnotic flourish of art, audio and words, bringing awareness, information and action to the forefront.

By using art to transform complex ecological crises into experiences that feel immediate, intimate, and accessible, Kalyani Pramod engages every visitor in quiet but powerful weave of her creativity.

In addition to the exhibit, conversations around sustainability, conservation, and the natural world will extend into a month-long programme featuring wildlife film screenings and workshops.

The Last Glimpse will be on till July 31 at Alliance Française of Madras, Nungambakkam. Entry is free.
