Betty Moon is spotlighting another side of her latest EP Strangely Beautiful with the release of “A Taxi Ride,” a reflective alt-pop/rock single that pairs ’90s alternative influences with a clear sense of emotional renewal. Already gaining traction on alternative rock radio, the track arrives as one of the EP’s most personal moments, balancing nostalgic textures with a contemporary edge.
Built around atmospheric production and an immediate hook, “A Taxi Ride” captures the emotional aftermath of losing someone deeply important while refusing to dwell in despair.
Instead, the song leans into resilience, tracing the difficult shift from grief to acceptance before embracing the possibility of a new chapter. Its late-night atmosphere and introspective songwriting reinforce the wider themes running through Strangely Beautiful, including reinvention, memory, desire and creative freedom.
“I hope people take away empowerment, good energy, positive vibes, and connection,” Moon says.
The release also reflects Moon’s artistic independence. After beginning her career in Toronto and signing with A&M Records in the 1990s, she chose to forge her own path through her label, Evolver Music, prioritising creative control over industry expectations. That freedom is evident across Strangely Beautiful, where personal reflection meets polished alt-pop songwriting without sacrificing authenticity.
While recent singles “Want Me To” and “Hunger Pain” expanded the EP’s emotional landscape, “A Taxi Ride” stands out for its understated optimism, giving Strangely Beautiful one of its most resonant and quietly uplifting centrepieces.
