Madison-based alternative rock duo Yolk is stepping into more cinematic territory with the release of “Amber” and its companion track, “I Am Pulling The Strings Apart”, arriving today (June 5). The songs form a concept-driven narrative that blends art rock, shoegaze textures and emotional storytelling into Yolk’s most expansive work to date.
“Amber” unfolds through the eyes of a prince trapped in a war between rival kingdoms. At the center of the conflict is an arranged marriage to Princess Amber, who remains convinced their destined future can still be realized despite the reality surrounding her. As political tensions escalate, her refusal to abandon that belief carries consequences far beyond heartbreak.
The story reaches its conclusion on I Am Pulling The Strings Apart, which draws inspiration from the East Asian red string theory. Rather than treating fate as something fixed, the song examines the difficult process of releasing connections that have run their course.
Musically, the pair of tracks pushes Yolk further into immersive territory. Dense guitar layers, shifting dynamics and atmospheric production give the songs a widescreen quality, while their melodic core keeps the emotional weight firmly in focus.
“We hope listeners feel absorbed in both the emotional and artistic experience within these songs,” Yolk shared. “Inspired by concept-driven works like Magdalena Bay’s Imaginal Disk and Pink Floyd’s The Wall, we wanted them to feel immersive, almost like stepping into another world.”
“Amber” is now available across all streaming platforms. Listen to the track below:
