Taylor Swift returns to country roots with new original song for “Toy Story 5”

Taylor Swift announces original song for ‘Toy Story 5’ titled ‘I Knew It, I Knew You.’

Taylor Swift is heading back to her country roots, this time with a little help from Pixar.

The global superstar has announced a brand-new original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” written for Disney and Pixar’s highly anticipated Toy Story 5. The track arrives June 5, two weeks ahead of the film’s theatrical release on June 19.

Swift revealed the news after days of fan speculation fueled by cryptic teasers, countdown clocks and billboard campaigns tied to the project. In a message shared with fans, the singer said she had dreamed of writing for the beloved franchise since childhood and was inspired to pen the song immediately after watching an early screening of the film.

The track was written and produced by Swift alongside longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, marking their latest creative partnership following work on The Tortured Poets Department. According to Disney, the song also signals a return to the country influences that helped launch Swift’s career.

That direction appears closely linked to Jessie, the franchise’s iconic cowgirl character. Disney says the song draws inspiration from Jessie’s emotional journey in Toy Story 5, a storyline expected to place the fan-favorite toy at the center of the film’s narrative.

Director Andrew Stanton praised Swift’s contribution, saying her understanding of Jessie’s character was immediate and that the song felt intrinsically connected to the world of Toy Story. He described it as a natural fit for the film from the moment he first heard it.

The announcement follows months of rumors surrounding Swift’s involvement in the project. Fans dissected clues ranging from cloud-filled billboards and hidden references across her online platforms to promotional imagery featuring Jessie and country-themed settings. The reveal finally confirmed what many had suspected: Swift was bringing original music to the beloved animated franchise.

“I Knew It, I Knew You” will be available in its standard version as well as acoustic and piano editions through limited CD singles sold on Swift’s official store. Whether the song represents her only contribution to Toy Story 5 remains unclear, but for now, one of 2026’s most talked-about music and movie collaborations is officially underway.
