BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Bruno Mars have officially claimed 2025’s global crown. Their slick, cross-continental smash “APT.” tops the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Global Single Chart.
The single closes out one of the most competitive years in recent memory with a staggering 2.06 billion equivalent units.
The achievement does more than secure a No. 1 spot. “APT.” becomes the first IFPI Global Single winner to feature non-English lyrics and the first to be led by artists from outside North America and Europe.
Rosé opens the track with playful Korean lines before the hook leans into the chant of “아파트,” pronounced “apateu,” meaning apartment. It’s a small linguistic detail that signals a much bigger shift, before sliding into sleep pop precision.
IFPI CEO Victoria Oakley called the win “a landmark moment,” adding, “This year’s results underline the global reach of today’s music market, with songs connecting across languages and borders.”
IFPI also credited a tightly coordinated international rollout, including radio, streaming platforms and marketing campaigns for working in sync and sustaining the single’s momentum across territories.
Elsewhere, the chart reflects a K-pop powered surge and the strength of collaborations. “Golden” by HUNTR/X, from the Netflix phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters, followed closely with 2 billion units, while Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” landed at No. 3 — one of only two 2025 releases to crack the Top 10. Mars doubles up at No. 4 alongside Lady Gaga on “Die With A Smile,” while Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “luther” secure No. 8.
Notably, eight of the Top 10 singles originated before 2025, proving that in today’s streaming economy, longevity rivals debut-week hype. And earlier this week, IFPI crowned Taylor Swift as Global Recording Artist of the Year for a fourth consecutive time, with “The Fate of Ophelia” also appearing in the Top 20.
The message is loud and clear: global pop is no longer defined by one language, but by how the world listens.
