McKenna Grace cast as Daphne in Netflix’s “Scooby-Doo” live-action series

‘Scooby-Doo’ Live-Action Netflix Series Casts Mckenna Grace as Daphne

Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series has found its Daphne. McKenna Grace is set to star as a young Daphne Blake in the streamer’s eight-episode origin story, according to Variety. The project marks a major step forward for the long-anticipated adaptation, which Netflix officially picked up in March 2025.

The new series will explore how Mystery Inc. first came together, reframing the beloved characters through a modern lens alongside their very special dog. Set during their final summer at camp, it follows Shaggy and Daphne as they investigate a haunting mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.

As the official logline states: “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”

Grace’s casting carries a sense of full circle. She voiced a young Daphne in Scoob! and later signed on to reprise the role in the sequel Scoob! Holiday Haunt, before Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the project. Now, she steps into the character in live action, anchoring a darker, serialized take on the franchise.

The young actress brings significant genre credibility. She earned an Emmy nomination for her performance in The Handmaid’s Tale and has appeared in projects ranging from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina to blockbuster films like Captain Marvel and I, Tonya.

Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg write and serve as showrunners, executive producing alongside André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner under Midnight Radio. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive produce via Berlanti Productions, with Warner Bros. Television producing the series.

“We’re excited to bring Scooby-Doo to TV as a live-action series for the first time,” said Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Sseries at Netflix. “The beloved franchise has had an impact on pop culture that is undeniable — it’s rich with universal themes of friendship that generations of fans have long embraced.”

While Scooby-Doo has enjoyed multiple animated iterations and live-action films, including the 2002 theatrical hit, the Netflix project marks the franchise’s first live-action television series. With an origin mystery at its core and Grace leading the charge, the show aims to reintroduce Mystery Inc. to a new generation while honoring decades of legacy.
