K-pop band GOT7 made their debut 12 years ago as fans and members mark their special date with warm social media posts and special fan projects
The septet consisting of Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom made their debut on January 20, 2014 with EP Got It? led by catchy single “Girls Girls Girls.”
Debuting under JYP Entertainment, the group earned acclaim for their genre-bending musicality as well as their live performances and choreography, which incorporated street dancing and martial arts tricking.
What stands out about GOT7 is their unity and brotherhood as they redefined what it means to be a K-pop band by leaving their agency in 2021 – after their contract expired – without ever letting the pursuit of separate paths corrode their bond.
Members Mark Tuan and BamBam posted sweet notes on their individual social media accounts, reminiscing on their growth and expressing gratitude to fans and each other – with BamBam fondly mentioning his bandmates as “having 6 brothers for life.”
The other members all later took to X to share their own reminiscences of the 12 years they’ve spent together with each other and with fans.
While anniversaries of groups no longer actively making music together tend to usually be bittersweet, GOT7’s anniversary continues to be a day of joy and fond memories for both their fanbase Ahgase/IGOT7 and for the seven members.
