The members were deeply involved in the creation of the songs, infusing their own thoughts and colors into them while musically expressing the emotions and struggles they have experienced along their journey.”

The announcement of the album title has pushed social media into overdrive with fans discussing the meaning of “Arirang” and what we can expect from the legendary septet.

What does ‘Arirang’ mean?

According to UNESCO, the word “arirang” is drawn from a beloved Korean folk song thought to be atleast six centuries old.

Often considered an unofficial national anthem, the song is thought to encapsulate Korean heritage and shared history.

Though there is no single meaning, “arirang” is often connected to themes of creativity, freedom, empathy, hope and reunion.

The deep, intricate associations of the word have prompted BTS fans to speculate that the album title is a thoughtful reference to the band’s hiatus and reunion.
