As the rest of the world settles into the quiet melancholia and the tender comforts of December, Chennai is alive with the vibrance of the Margazhi festival.
A renowned cultural celebration that has been part of Chennai’s cultural landscapes every year since the 1920s, Margazhi ushers in a spectacular line-up of classical music and dance events across the city.
At Grand Chennai by GRT Hotels, the lobby will echo with rich melodies every weekend until January 11, 2026. The Grand Gaana Sabha, featuring celebrated artists from Chennai’s well-known sabhas, kicked off its inaugural performance on Friday, December 12.
Led by the vocals of Ashwath Narayanan, the event was off to an enchanting start, laying the foundation for a stellar line-up of vocalists and instrumentalists to come for the rest of month and in the new year.
Delivering the magic of Margazhi with a seamless mix of Carnatic and Jugalbandi Hindustani music, the entire event will be elevated by a delectable special menu inspired by the classic sabha fare from Grand’s fining dining restaurant J.Hind.
