Amazon’s MX Player has released the first teaser for Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery, a new supernatural thriller inspired by the life and unexplained death of India’s first certified paranormal investigator.
Led by Karan Tacker and Kalki Koechlin, the series marks a rare entry into the horror genre for the platform and quickly captured attention online with a tense, shadow-filled goosebumps-inducing first look.
What is Bhay – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery about?
The series draws from real events surrounding Gaurav Tiwari, whose investigations into India’s most notorious haunted locations made him a prominent figure in the paranormal community. The teaser opens inside one of his field operations — dim corridors, flickering bulbs, and the sense of something moving just beyond sight — setting the tone for a grounded, psychological horror narrative rather than a stylized spectacle.
Who stars in the series?
Karan Tacker plays Tiwari in what he describes as “one of my most challenging roles,” noting the emotional toll of portraying someone whose life and legacy remain shrouded in unanswered questions.
Kalki Koechlin stars as Irene Venkat, a journalist who once sought to debunk Tiwari’s work but begins re-examining her beliefs following his sudden death at 32. Danish Sood and Saloni Batra appear in key supporting roles.
Is there a release date?
Not yet. Amazon MX Player has confirmed the series will stream exclusively on its platform—free across the MX Player app, Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, and Airtel Xstream—but has not announced a premiere date.
Is there a trailer?
A minute-long teaser is now out, offering a restrained but eerie glimpse of recreated case files, documented investigations, and the shifting dynamic between Tiwari and Irene as she unravels the story he left behind.
Why does Gaurav Tiwari’s story matter?
Tiwari’s career carved out a path for paranormal investigation in India. His unexplained death in 2016 became a subject of national debate, intensifying public curiosity and giving the series a sensitive real-world anchor. Bhay aims to explore both the man and the myth without sensationalizing his legacy.
