GMMTV has announced that Replay Series, announced at their 2026 line-up starring TayNew, JossGawin and PondPhuwin has been cancelled.
Since the airing of the pilot on Tuesday, November 25, social media has been buzzing with concerns regarding the source material from which the series would be adapted.
Having begun its life as a fanfiction on online fiction platform Joylada, Replay is alleged to have used to direct references to real-life celebrities such as Chinese actors Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo – including using actual image of the artists on cover images of stories.
Further, despite Joylada’s rule against monetising fanfiction, fans note that the author managed to generate income via paywall loopholes.
As explained by fans on social media, the concerns stem from questions regarding author’s commercial use of the artists’ identity, image and characteristics without their knowledge or permission, which led to criticism and boycott of the author in the past.
Though there has been no official confirmation about the exact reasons for cancellation, GMMTV put out a statement confirming that the production of Replay will be discontinued after having conducted “a thorough review.”
The company also assured fans that they proceed with developing other projects for the cast members involved in this series.

Despite disappointment – and some confusion – among the three fanbases who were looking forward to seeing their favourite stars share screen space, the company’s decision is being respected by fans who will now look forward to seeing what the three popular pairings will be doing next.
