Texas musical trio Khruangbin releases The Universe Smiles Upon You ii, the reimagined version of their debut album The Universe Smiles Upon You on its 10-year anniversary.
The new version of the album reinterprets the original album and makes changes to infuse a dose of freshness to the production. Removing original album opener “Mr. White” and including fan favorite “Bin Bin,” the reimagined album closes their first sonic chapter and marks the beginning of a new one.
In conversation with Rolling Stone, the band discussed their decision to rerecord their debut album and create The Universe Smiles Upon You iim “The thought was like, ‘We’ll just do it all over again. And it will be us 10 years later with the same instruments in the same location, and it’ll be different because we’re different. But as the date neared, it was sort of, ‘Actually, the kids 10 years later would think about the songs as they are today, and not just play them as they were. That’s not who we are.’”
