Billie Eilish pledges $11.5m from tour to climate justice organisations

Billie Eilish used her moment in the spotlight at the Wall Street Journal Magazine’s 2025 Innovator Awards to do more than accept an honor — she issued a challenge.

The 23-year-old singer announced she is donating $11.5 million of proceeds from her Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour to organizations addressing food inequity, climate justice, and carbon pollution reduction, urging the billionaires in the room to follow suit.

Eilish was one of eight honorees at the New York event on October 29, where comedian Stephen Colbert presented her with the Music Innovator of the Year award. While introducing the Grammy winner, Colbert revealed that $11.5 million from her 106-date arena tour — which spanned North America, Oceania, Asia, and Europe — will go toward nonprofits “dedicated to food equity, climate justice, reducing carbon pollution, and combating the climate crisis.”

“That’s wonderful,” Colbert said. “Billie, on behalf of humans, thank you very much.”

Taking the stage, Billie Eilish addressed the audience, which included Mark Zuckerberg, Karlie Kloss, Tory Burch, and Hailey Bieber, with a pointed message about wealth and responsibility.

“We’re in a time right now where the world is really, really bad, and really dark, and people need empathy and help more than, kind of, ever, especially in our country,” she said. “I’d say if you have money, it’d be great to use it for good things, and maybe give it to some people that need it. Love you all, but there’s a few people in here that have a lot more money than me. If you’re a billionaire, why are you a billionaire? No hate, but yeah — give your money away, shorties.”

Eilish’s donation is among the largest philanthropic commitments made by a pop artist in 2025, continuing her record of using global tours as platforms for environmental advocacy. Her Live Nation–backed Hit Me Hard and Soft tour launched in September 2024 and has reportedly generated over $46 million in box office revenue.

Proceeds from her “Changemaker” ticket initiative will also support Reverb’s Climate Impact Fund and the Music Decarbonization Project — campaigns aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the music industry.

This isn’t Eilish’s first push toward sustainability. Her 2022–23 Happier Than Ever tour raised nearly $1 million for environmental causes, while her ongoing Overheated climate action event — now expanded from London to Berlin — connects fans, activists, and experts for discussions on sustainable fashion, plant-based food systems, and renewable energy.

For Billie Eilish, the message remains consistent: global superstardom means little without global responsibility. And on a night designed to celebrate innovation, she reminded the industry’s wealthiest that giving back is, perhaps, the most innovative act of all.
