Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) and Marisa Abela (Industry) are all set to star in the raunchy thriller The Return of Stanley Atwell, reports Deadline

Written and directed by Brian Welsh (Black Mirror), the film is based on a story by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh – who also serves as executive producer.

An alluring tale that’s written to be a mischievous, punky  and subversive mystery thriller that takes down the hold and hierarchy of the British aristocracy, the film will see Galitzine portray the titular character  Stanley Atwell, the presumed dead son and heir to Lord Atwell’s title and fortune who unexpectedly returns to the family estate having escaped a decade of mysterious captivity.

While Galitzine’s character grapples with fighting for his inheritance with his  sister Beatrice, Abela’s Pamela puts her own manipulations in motion in a bid to seize control of the Atwell fortune.

Laden with sex, passion, backstabbing and betrayal and everything in between, the mysteries of deception,  greed and tension are thick within the story, packing the script with plenty for viewers to sink their teeth into.

The film will be produced by Liza Marshall for Hera Pictures, which is currently in post-production with Amblin and Neal Street on Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao and starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley. John Gore will serve as producer for John Gore Studios while cinematographer Benjamin Kracun (The Substance) is confirmed as DoP. Executive producers also include Protagonist’s Dave Bishop, George Hamilton and James Pugh alongside Hilary Strong for John Gore Studios.

With all the makings of a meaty project, the film is sure to benefit from the recent successes of both Galitzine who is coming off hugely successful projects including Amazon’s hit The Idea of You opposite Anne Hathaway and Red, White & Royal Blue alongside Taylor Zakhar Perez as well Abela who was recently BAFTA-nominated for the third season of hit show Industry and also starred with Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett in the Steven Soderbergh-directed espionage thriller, Black Bag. Described by Marshall as  “something truly special — a seductive, entertaining thriller that feels fresh, provocative, and impossible to look away from,” the film looks set to scale new heights  led by the talents of the two rising stars.
