If you’ve ever fallen in love at a truck stop or felt strangely seen in a gas station at midnight, Mt. Joy’s new single “God Loves Weirdos” might just be your new favorite hymn.
The Philadelphia-rooted indie rock outfit returns with their latest offering off the upcoming album Hope We Have Fun — a deeply layered slow-burn that feels equal parts love letter and late-night confessional. With gentle guitars, swirling keys, and frontman Matt Quinn’s trademark rawness, the track captures the strange tenderness of life on tour, not the screaming crowds or stage lights, but the sweet in-between moments. The weird ones. The human ones.
“The song dives deeper into life on the road, after the stage lights go out,” Quinn reflects. “You pull into the gas station and those are your date nights — goofing around at a truck stop, looking at all the funny T-shirts. Maybe the road is pulling you apart, but then you have those moments where you’re laughing and thinking, this is so fun… I love this person.”

Set to hit airwaves on May 30 via Futures x Bloom Field Records, Hope We Have Fun promises to be Mt. Joy’s most expansive record yet, both in sound and ambition. Recorded in fits between tour stops, the album leans into emotional contradictions: exhaustion vs euphoria, loneliness vs love, fame vs friendship. “God Loves Weirdos” sits right in the center of that Venn diagram, both playful and bruised.
The band’s 2025 tour schedule reflects their growing footprint — a staggering 42-date headline tour, with marquee slots at Newport Folk Festival, Bonnaroo, and Governors Ball. It’s a long way from their 2016 DIY beginnings, and they’ve got the numbers to show for it: over a billion streams, six Top 5 AAA radio hits, and a reputation for soul-stirring live shows.
But with “God Loves Weirdos,” Mt. Joy reminds us why they’re still a band worth rooting for: they haven’t traded their heart for hype.
