Max’s Harry Potter TV series has officially named four series regulars and two recurring roles, per Deadline

This includes four powerhouse actors named previously by the site, including John Lithgow set to appear as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Now it’s been announced that they will be joined by Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. Whitehouse is the only actor from the original franchise to be cast in the reboot thus far, having played Sir Cadogan in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

The coming-of-age tale of young wizard Harry Potter set in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, there are few in this generation who haven’t been awed by the magical world which spanned the source material of seven books by J.K Rowling and eight Warner Bros. Films.

Touted by streamer as “a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by Rowling – who executive produces with Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films – the series comes from writer/showrunner Francesca Gardiner, executive producer Mark Mylod, who will direct multiple episodes for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, previously said that the TV series would be a deep dive into each of Rowling’s novels. In a joint statement, Gardiner and Mylod said, “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.”

Production for the series – which according to Bloys will run for 10 consecutive years – is set to begin this summer at Leavesden Studios, where the films were shot and is the current home of the official Harry Potter Studio Tour.

Casting is underway for many major roles including that of the titular character, famously portrayed by Daniel Radcliffe on the big screen. The roles of his dearest friends Ron and Hermoine – originally played by Rupert Grint and Emma Watson – are also up for grabs. A casting call has revealed that prospective actors should be between 9 and 11 years old as of this month.
